February Team Ride

Thanks to all that showed up on a soggy January 28 for our first team ride of 2006.

Another team ride is scheduled for Saturday February 25, 2006. This is will be a 'base' ride to get in some solid miles without a hammerfest (hopefully). Probably 2-4 hours depending on weather and turnout.

Come out and get involved in team riding for 2006. This is a good chance for those interested in joining the team to meet riders.

Ride location: IMPE

Notes: Ride time grace period of 10 minutes. Generally, we won't ride if the roads are icy but otherwise is up to you to decide if you are comfortable with weather conditions (i.e., rain, wind).

2006 Team Kit Design

The 2006 C-U Racing team kit design is being finalized. Here's a look at the current version (click thumbnail for larger image). Once we sort out some details, sizing and ordering for this years gear will start soon. Stay tuned.

Illini Chill Ride... Just for Fun

The 2006 Illini Chill ride will occur Saturday February 4, 2006. This is an organized ride out of St Joe, just east of Urbana. There are several route options usuall from 30 miles to 60 miles. Plan to ride out and back from C-U the ride for an extra 30 miles. This is a good way to make C-U Racing visible to and support the local cycling community. There is usually a decent group with riders that rolls off the front early at a nice pace. Ride starts at 10AM and if you opt for the $20 registration a preride breakfast and postride spaghetti lunch are included.

Spring Training Camp Update

For those attending the 2006 C-U Racing Spring Training Camp, Josh Ballard will be sending out a more detailed info packet within a week or two.  The cost for the cabin and breakfast each day comes to $85.00 each.

Details: The dates have been set for March 24-27. The camp will occur in southern Illinois on a 4-day structured schedule. The riding will work out to roughly 275 miles total, with some shorter days oriented toward climbing and one long day of 100+ miles.

Rides meet at IMPE on the UI campus. Please check the link as times are updated throughout the year to accommodate weather and daylight issues.

New Team CSC Documentary

Those of you looking for interesting cycling videos, check out the new documentary "Overcoming" which follows the 2004 CSC cycling team. The production quality and content are excellent and there is a bonus disc including a variety of shorts. Get a good behind the scenes view of pro cycling. It's available through several mail order vendors.

Spring Training Camp Dates Set

The 2006 edition of the C-U Racing Spring Training Camp is currently in the planning stage. The dates have been set for March 24-27. The riding will work out to roughly 65 miles per day with some shorter days oriented toward climbing and one long day, likely 100+ miles. Costs are undetermined but group lodging will be included. New C-U Racing Website

A new website for C-U Racing is on the way. For 2006, the team website will be managed via blog technology to promote quick communication regarding group rides, race schedules, results and other events. Team members will be able to submit results directly to the website and team captains can organize their riders more effectivley.

It's a new year. Get out and ride. Get ready to race in 2006.
